Accessible paths & ramps in Ketton: what is involved
We build permanent concrete and paved access ramps, level landings and widened paths so wheelchairs, walkers and pushchairs can get to the door safely, including adaptations funded by a Disabled Facilities Grant.
Ketton gave its name to Ketton stone, the cream oolitic limestone quarried beside the village, and its older streets are built of it, many under Collyweston slate. Around the historic core are later 20th-century houses and bungalows, and the cement works and quarry sit on the edge of the village.
We cover Ketton (PE9) and the villages around it, including Tinwell, Collyweston, Barrowden, Tixover, Aldgate and Geeston.
Ground and conservation in Ketton
Ketton is on the Lincolnshire Limestone, which usually drains well, but the River Chater runs through the village to meet the Welland, and ground close to the river is a different matter. We test before designing a soakaway. We dig the base below the topsoil in Ketton and lay it on a compacted sub-base, so it stays level.
Ketton has a conservation area covering the historic village but no Article 4 direction, so normal permitted development rules apply outside listed buildings, with the usual conservation area limits. Ketton stone frontages call for buff and natural tones rather than grey.

Permissions in Ketton
- PlanningA ramp or path in the garden does not normally need planning permission, but a raised ramp or platform more than 30cm high can. We build to the gradients and landings in Approved Document M, and Disabled Facilities Grant work follows the occupational therapist's recommendations. Listed buildings and the Ketton conservation area have tighter rules, so we check your address before anything is designed.
- Disabled Facilities GrantGrants are run by Rutland County Council. You apply to the council, an occupational therapist assesses what is needed, and the grant can cover up to £30,000 in England. We price to the council's schedule and work to the OT's report.
- Design and priceWe measure up, check the ground and the planning position, and give you one fixed written price.
