Accessible paths & ramps in Weldon: what is involved
We build permanent concrete and paved access ramps, level landings and widened paths so wheelchairs, walkers and pushchairs can get to the door safely, including adaptations funded by a Disabled Facilities Grant.
Weldon is an old stone village on the east side of Corby, famous for Weldon stone, the limestone quarried here for centuries. Its historic centre of stone houses is surrounded by later estates that now join it to Corby.
We cover Weldon (NN17) and the villages around it, including Great Oakley, Little Oakley, Deene, Brigstock and Stanion.
Ground and conservation in Weldon
Weldon sits over the limestone and ironstone that were quarried here, and ground can change from natural rock to clay or fill within a garden. The Willow Brook runs past the village, so drainage needs designing rather than assuming. On the clay around Weldon we dig the base below the topsoil and build it thicker, so it does not move with the seasons.
Weldon has a conservation area covering the historic village, appraised in 2009. North Northamptonshire has no Article 4 direction in Weldon affecting driveways, porches or extensions.

Permissions in Weldon
- PlanningA ramp or path in the garden does not normally need planning permission, but a raised ramp or platform more than 30cm high can. We build to the gradients and landings in Approved Document M, and Disabled Facilities Grant work follows the occupational therapist's recommendations. Listed buildings and the Weldon conservation area have tighter rules, so we check your address before anything is designed.
- Disabled Facilities GrantGrants are run by North Northamptonshire Council. You apply to the council, an occupational therapist assesses what is needed, and the grant can cover up to £30,000 in England. We price to the council's schedule and work to the OT's report.
- Design and priceWe measure up, check the ground and the planning position, and give you one fixed written price.
