Driveways in Oakham, from the old town to the new estates

Oakham is our home patch. From ironstone cottages near the castle to the new family homes at Barleythorpe and Oakham Heights, we have built driveways on most streets in town — resin, block paving, tarmac and gravel, each chosen to suit the house in front of it.

Driveways for every era of Oakham

The old town. Around the castle, All Saints and the market place, Oakham's oldest streets mix limestone and warm ironstone under Collyweston and slate roofs. Frontages are small and the setting is sensitive: bound gravel, buff resin and natural-toned blocks keep new work in keeping. Access down the old yards and lanes takes planning, which we factor in from the first visit.

Victorian and interwar Oakham. The terraces and semis off Brooke Road, Braunston Road and Burley Road are classic front-garden-to-parking conversions: dropped kerb applications through the highways authority, levels worked out around bay windows and steps, and permeable surfacing so drainage rules never become a problem.

New Oakham. Barleythorpe and the growing developments north of town come with builder-grade drives that owners often replace within a few years — usually widening to two cars and upgrading tarmac or thin block to a properly based resin or block surface that matches the spec of the house.

The ground around Oakham

Much of the Vale of Catmose sits on heavy clay that holds winter water. That makes base depth and drainage design — soakaways, channels, permeable construction — the difference between a drive that stays flat and one that heaves. We build for the ground we actually dig, and our quotes say exactly what is going underneath.

Villages we serve around Oakham

We cover Oakham and the surrounding Vale of Catmose, where clay ground makes proper drainage essential. Villages we regularly work in include Langham, Braunston, Egleton, Burley, Ashwell, Whissendine, Cottesmore and Greetham.

Do I need permission to create a driveway in Oakham?

Creating new access onto the road needs a dropped kerb application, and impermeable surfacing over 5m² of front garden needs drainage within your boundary. We handle both as part of the project, and our permeable builds keep most jobs outside the rules entirely.

How quickly can you visit?

We are based in Rutland, so Oakham visits are usually within a few days — often sooner.

Which surface do you recommend for the new estates?

For most modern homes it is between resin and block. Resin gives a seamless upgrade over builder-grade finishes; block suits houses with strong brick detailing. We will quote either or both.
