A full-width charcoal block drive across the front of a semi in Oakham, built straight after we converted the garage at the same house.
A charcoal herringbone block driveway across the full width of a semi-detached house in Oakham, with two steel-grated channel drains and a pea gravel strip along the boundary fence. Completed in October 2026, it followed a garage conversion at the same property, and the two jobs were run in that order so the new drive was never used as a works area.

Two jobs, one order
This house had two jobs with us. First, the integral garage was converted into a habitable room; then the frontage was rebuilt as a new driveway. We ran them in that order on purpose: deliveries, waste and the brickwork for the new front wall were all finished before a single block went down, so the new drive never had to double as a works yard.
What we built
The drive runs the full width of the plot, from the neighbour's paving on one side to the boundary fence on the other, so two cars can park side by side. The charcoal-grey block is laid in herringbone, the pattern that locks together best under turning tyres, and a double border in a darker block frames every edge.
Two steel-grated channel drains meet at the front corner, one across the frontage and one along the fence side, collecting surface water on the drive. Along the fence, a strip of pea gravel keeps the paving clear of the fence posts and gives the base of the fence room to dry out.
