Porch extensions in Stamford that suit the house and keep the weather out
A well-built porch does three jobs at once: it keeps draughts and rain out of the hallway, adds somewhere to leave coats and boots, and lifts the look of the front of the house. We build brick, stone and glazed porches across Stamford and its villages, matched to the property and finished to last. Many porches fall within permitted development, and the smallest fall outside Building Regulations altogether — we will tell you exactly where yours sits before we start.

Porches built for Stamford homes
The right porch depends entirely on the house it is joining, and Stamford has plenty of variety.
On period and stone properties in and around the conservation area, a porch has to be sympathetic — matched limestone or brick, a pitched and slated roof, and timber or slim-framed glazing. A clumsy uPVC box on a Georgian frontage looks wrong and can cause planning problems; we build to suit the age of the house.
On Victorian and Edwardian villas, an enclosed porch over the original front step adds insulation and storage while keeping the period detail. We retain or replicate features like tiled thresholds and decorative brick where they exist.
On modern estates around Casterton Road and the town edges, a porch is often a simple, practical addition — brick to match, a tiled lean-to or pitched roof, and a composite door. These are frequently permitted development and quick to build.
When does a porch need approval?
A porch is generally permitted development, and exempt from Building Regulations, if its floor area is under three square metres, it sits more than two metres from a road or boundary, and the front door between porch and house stays in place. Larger porches, or those on listed and some conservation-area properties, need approval — and we handle that side rather than leaving it to you.
Stamford & villages we cover
We build porches across Stamford and villages including Ryhall, Tinwell, Barnack, Collyweston, Uffington and Easton on the Hill.

Before, after and common questions

"Our new porch looks like it was always there — the brick and roof match the house perfectly. Lovely job, no mess, no fuss."
Do I need planning permission for a porch in Stamford?
Often not — many porches are permitted development. But size, position relative to the boundary, and whether the house is listed or in the conservation area all matter. We check this for your property at the first visit.
Does a small porch need Building Regulations?
A porch under three square metres with the original front door retained is usually exempt, provided any glazing is safety glass and it does not cover a gas or electricity meter awkwardly. Larger porches do need Building Regs, which we arrange.
Can you match my brick or stone?
Yes. Matching the existing frontage is the whole point of a good porch, and we source brick, stone and roofing to suit — particularly important on Stamford's older homes.
How long does a porch take to build?
A straightforward porch is usually a one to two week job on site once any approvals are in place.
